Lenguas Vivas: A book of poetry in Indigenous languages

"PEN International launches Lenguas Vivas, a new project celebrating the vitality of Indigenous literary expression across Latin America. As part of this, a regional anthology has been unveiled at the Guadalajara International Book Fair 2025. Curated by Miguel Ángel Oxlaj Cúmez — it features 26 authors from Mexico (Chiapas), Bolivia, Argentina, Chile, and Guatemala, with poetry published in Indigenous languages and Spanish self-translations.

Lenguas Vivas project seeks to elevate Indigenous voices, foster public dialogue on inequality, and strengthen regional advocacy for linguistic rights. Working closely with PEN Centres across the region — and in collaboration with Indigenous writers— it champions inclusive approaches to literary creation and cultural expression.

Through this initiative, PEN International aims to highlight issues of inequality and amplify the perspectives of communities whose voices remain marginalised within mainstream cultural spaces."
