During JMF in Asia this year, we saw that many Taiwanese Indigenous sing in Mandarin, a parallel to how many Indigenous peoples of Canada sing in English.
Every JMF artist is on a journey to reclaim or reconnect with their mother tongue. JMF recognizes the importance of this work, and is actively connecting musicians and music-lovers who share these same lived experiences.
This year, JMF presents an Indigenous Opening, featuring Indigenous musicians and storytellers. As a platform for mother tongue-based music, JMF invites all communities to come together in solidarity and find connection through music.
