The true speakers [of Xetá] were Tucanambá, Tikein. and Kwein. The first two died some years ago. Kuein is still alive but deaf. Aryon [Rodrigues] used to refer to a Xetá woman, Aan (also Ana), as a speaker of Xetá, but now she only speaks Mbya with her husband in her Mbyá community. She has not practiced her native language for a long time. Also, she could not speak with the last male speakers, for cultural reasons. These two ... are in fact the two last people who know the Xetá language.
