Kaduo people are classified under the Hani 哈尼 nationality in China with a total population of 1,439,600 Hani people (2000).
Outsiders who were married into Kaduo villages also learn to speak Kaduo.

An orthography based on Haya 哈雅 dialect of Hani (Yi/Ngwi/Loloish/Nisoic) was published in 1957-58.
The Kaduo people dwell primarily in Yunnan 雲南Province (China), specifically Miaojiang (墨江哈尼族自治縣), Jiangcheng (江城哈尼族彝族自治縣), Zhenyuan (鎮沅彝族哈尼族拉祜族自治縣) of Pu'er 普洱 city, and Xinping (新平彝族傣族自治縣) of Yuxi 玉溪 city .
