[Currently, there are no people whose mother tongue is Nononotá. Those who today have some proficiency in the language learned it later after Muinane (as in the case of the elders Elijah and Joseph) and Spanish (as in the case of Evelio and Sika, sons of Don Elias). Of the last three native speakers (deceased), audio files and documented transcriptions from between the decades of the seventies to the nineties are kept in processes led by members of the group (especially the elder José Moreno, of the backpacker clan), with the support of linguist the Jon Landaburu, the anthropologist Juan Alvaro Echeverri, and the Gaia Foundation (p.54).]
