This article discusses the development of the Kahuawaiola Indigenous Teacher Education Program, the first teacher education program specifically addressing the needs of Hawaiian medium education. It includes a discussion of Hawaiian medium education and teacher preparation through the College of Hawaiian Language for Hawaiian medium education (rather than methods to teach Hawaiian). The authors discuss elements and philosophy of the program, along with connections outside of Hawai'i.
