This study focuses on Kampong Rimun, an area that has resisted settlement of outside groups. The language is strongest in this community, but other communities have seen a far greater number of Iban migrants and intermarriage. Outside of the core population in this village, the linguistics situation is less positive.

The Remun inhabit a complex polyglossic linguistic environment and most interact using a variety of codes on a daily basis. Outside of Kampong Remun, the younger generation uses Iban almost exclusively. The area used in this study represents the core of Ramun resistance to Iban linguistic influence.
