Despite the encroachment of surrounding languages, the use of Bobongko in this relatively small language community around Kilat Bay remains strong and is encouraged.

Togian Islands of Central Sulawesi. 1,100 of the 1,500 reside in Lembanato village and elsewhere along the shores of Kilat Bay on the north side of Togian Island.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
"In the 1960's, a splinter group left Lembanato to settle near Tumbulawa village on the north side of Batu Daka Island. At present this second group reportedly comprises about one hundred Bobongko families, or four hundred or so additional speakers..."
