"This project to make a lasting record of this endangered language and culture, and document the geographically and generationally gradual effect of language contact, began in the late 90s. It was planned that a field survey of fifteen different variants of the Qiang language and culture would be carried out. The aim was to also make an extensive record of lexical, grammatical, narrative, sociolinguistic and cultural information, and video and still photos to be taken of the lifestyle, dress, and other cultural aspects. Due to funding and time constraints however, this project has been on hold for a number of years. Linguistic data and images that have been gathered so far will be made available on this web site, and the plan is for the collected data to eventually be used to make a web-based dialect atlas showing the distribution of various linguistic and cultural features.
