"At the time we began our revitalization project, there were two remaining speakers of the language, one of whom was in her fifties, and the other of whom was in her seventies. The speaker with whom I have been able to work is Mrs. Loretta Kelsey; she used her language in regular communication with her mother until she was in her thirties, but, until our work together began, had not used it regularly since that time."
"Each step that the Elem Pomo Language Group took during the period reported on in this paper -- the creation of an orthography, making and using flashcards in language teaching, gathering data for a phrasebook, and holding immersion language camps -- has been an important move forward in the renewal of Elem."
