According to their tradition, they were brought as war captives from what is now Jinghong County in China over 200 years ago; and indeed some closely related non-endangered languages, including Khatu (Chinese term Kaduo) and Piyo (Chinese term Biyue), classified as part of the Hani nationality, are still spoken there.
Central Phrae Province. One village, Ban Dong, just east of Phrae town, with a recent southern offshoot Ban Dong Tai, ‘South Ban Dong’.
