Ethnic Hpun people scatter in about 15 villages. Survey work in the 1959 found that there are two dialectal varieties based on place names where the southern variety (me42 ʨo11) is now extinct and the northern variety (səmɑŋ42) was then severely endangered. None of the older speakers can speak the language fluently. They only remember some lexical items.
