  Soriente Disagrees with the classification of Kenyah languages. The dialect used in this study, Lebu' Kulit, is grouped by Soriente as a Kayanic language rather than a Kenyah language. Issues in subgrouping languages in Central Borneo are well known, and still up for debate.

The languages are under treat because of the migration of Kenyah people from their original villages in the upper reaches of the rivers to coastal locations. Also, they are affected by the double influence of better known or “mainstream” Kenyah and Indonesian, the national language.
