Wano is under pressure from the neighbouring very large Western Dani language, and is also losing its trade language status. Indonesian is also beginning to play a role.
There is some literacy in Wano.
Spoken in the central highlands area, on the Upper Tariku (Dou) River which is there known as the Yamo River. Lingua franca and trade language in the area.
