In 1981, thirty-five speakers were reported. There are still about thirty speakers now.
The language is under pressure from large neighbouring related languages, especially the Daga language.
No literacy
Milne Bay Province. Spoken inland, west of the central coast of Goodenough Bay, on the southernmost arm of the Ruaba River, a few kilometres south of Ruaba.
