The language is under pressure from Ubir, English and Tok Pisin.
Speakers are literate in English and the Ubir language spoken further southeast on the coast of Collingwood Bay as a church lingua franca.
Oro Province. Spoken less than 10km inland from the east coast of Collingwood Bay, inland from Wanigela settlement, in Naukwata and Koreat.
