LANGUAGE CONTEXT COMMENTS: Close contact and intermarriage between dialects and with adjacent Jehai, Lanoh and Temiar; speakers accommodate readily to other Aslian languages and dialects.

LOCATION DESCRIPTION: Thailand: southern, Betong; Malaysia: northwest peninsular, near Baling.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: About 500 group members, about half each in Thailand and Malaysia, four distinct dialects (Batuq, Siong, Nakil, Bong) of hunter-gatherer bands. Numerous other extinct dialects further west, formerly extending to the coast across from Penang.
