The Akademi Kernewek has several areas of interest including: improving Cornish–English dictionary entries, new terminology, signage and place-names, and linguistic research. A biennial conference, Skians, invites researchers to discuss their findings (both linguistic and socio-linguistic) related to the Cornish language. The online dictionary, "App Gerlyver", is available to download on Android and iOS. A database of Cornish place names, hosted on the Akademi website, contains research on etymology and historic spellings.

Kowethas an Yeth Kernewek is a registered charity which promotes the Cornish language through a wide range of publications, projects and events including the Pennseythen Gernewek, the Cornish Language Weekend, the largest annual gathering of Cornish speakers.
