"As soon as you cut off a person's tongue, you hurt his self-esteem."

In this digital story, Jeffrey Hartzenberg, a Khoikhoi poet, rapper, and language activist from South Africa, shares how reclaiming his language has helped him find ǂURUSEN - self-healing - from the feeling of brokenness brought on by centuries of colonialism.

This video was created during the "We Are Our Languages" digital storytelling workshop in late 2024, organized by the Endangered Languages Project and facilitated by StoryCenter.
