An article I published in Lebanon's English-language daily, The Daily Star, in the April 13, 2010 issue. It's an overview of Soqotri, the endangered oral language of the Yemeni archipelago of Socotra, Socotris' concerns that it may become extinct with the predominance of Arabic from the mainland in everyday usage and in school education, and the few individual efforts by Socotris, with the help of an expert, to develop a script for it, record it and preserve it.
