With few young speakers and little official support, activists are turning to artificial intelligence to help preserve one of Turkey’s endangered languages: Laz.

The Laz Insitute is working hard to assist in reversing the decline of Laz by turning to AI to create a digital archive of the language that is now predominantly only spoke in the homes of grandparents and great-grandparents. The hope is that if Laz is no longer spoken in community, then at least it will survive in the digital world, awaiting for descendants to reclaim their heritage tongue.
